The Gaming Giant Brings Onboard Popular Battle Royale Lead to Boost Struggling Action Game Project Ethos
The renowned publisher has secured a seasoned producer from the creators of Apex Legends to direct the studio crew at 31st Union, which is currently working on the forthcoming third-person action-packed title known as this innovative game.
Management Shift Follows Poor Response
The new appointee steps into the role of studio head at the development studio following the dismissal of former leader Michael Condrey, who was reportedly let go due to the game's disappointing early showing last autumn.
Recently, 2K president David Ismailer notified team members about this strategic move through an internal memo, which stressed that early feedback sessions had indicated the requirement for a distinct game identity.
Ismailer stated that the developers is now refining Project Ethos with a renewed approach, aiming to satisfy gamer demands.
A Pattern of Strategic Hires
This announcement mirrors a comparable action taken by 2K Games in the summer, when they hired Rod Fergusson from Blizzard to contribute to the beloved franchise studio Cloud Chamber.
Here is the entire text from the president's announcement:
Hello Everyone—
I understand you all just finished your town hall - I trust you’re as thrilled as I am with the recent updates. Last time I sent you all a message, I stated the following: “I believe in this group. You all are some of the most dedicated and talented creators we have had the pleasure to collaborate with - and we’re excited for that partnership to endure.”
With your dedication and adaptability, especially over the last year, you repeatedly show that.
The community feedback from last fall’s the game demo was enlightening. It confirmed the promise of a action-packed game but made clear we still had improvements to make. It highlighted the need for a sharper brand.
It has been motivating to see how far you’ve come. You accepted the feedback to consideration and revamped Project ETHOS with a revitalized vision - one that’s poised to fulfill its potential to our fans.
Our confidence in Project ETHOS strengthens every day. To further the incredible development you’ve made, I’m excited to announce Ben Brinkman as the new Lead of the team. Following several months of talks, Ben officially joins us on next week.
His leadership and expertise in the PVP shooter space is considerable, having dedicated the past decade and a half producing and leading some of the most popular franchises in the industry, for example Call of Duty: Black Ops, and lately, Apex Legends.
I invite you all in greeting him next week. We are all eager to keep seeing the progress of the game in the weeks to follow.
David
Background of the Incoming Leader
Brinkman presently serves in the role of executive producer and production lead at Respawn Entertainment for their flagship title. Brinkman earlier worked at major gaming companies in various production roles on the Call of Duty series, and, prior to that, had assignments at 2K and Electronic Arts.
Game Information and Vision
Project Ethos was revealed in last year alongside a community playtest. Initially, the developers presented the title as a "free-to-play, 3rd-person action-packed experience and an innovative advancement on the category."
"Build your perfect run—or die trying—in this 3rd-person action shooter! Build your hero in real-time to suit your personal playstyle," the description explains. "Face the competition with fresh skills, stakes, and tests that evolve every match. Will you safely extract with your valuable rewards? Or go big, risk it all, and trust your team can earn top ranking? The decision is up to you."
The game lacks an official release date or platforms, but fans can look forward to more updates as development advances.
